Covid-19 Update:
Posted by: Spunlite Poles Mar 2022

1st March 2022:

As most of you are aware, Spunlite Poles and its sister company Windsor Urban have been producing quality New Zealand made products for over 50 years. We pride ourselves on our commitment to innovative design, quality of materials and workmanship.

We see our role to provide a product and service that exceeds customer expectation and as an employer of New Zealanders proud of their work and achievements. Currently though, we are facing some issues which are impacting on our service to the market.

Due to the increased costs of importation along with the irregular shipping schedules, we are seeing a shift to domestically manufactured product. While this is great news for us as a New Zealand business, it has been difficult to build on our existing manufacturing capabilities to cope with this increased demand.

Our in-house paint facility, due to the increased orders, is currently at over capacity. We would normally outsource the overflow but in New Zealand, there is a real lack of painting subcontractors. Three of the largest industrial painters in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have closed their operations in the last 12 months. This has had an impact on what capacity is available for us to subcontract to. As we are all about quality, we also need to be sure any outside contractors we engage have the capability to perform and therefore building new capacity and/or proven relationships is taking time.

Furthermore, over the last six months, other subcontractors such as those who provide galvanizing have been adversely impacted by Covid outbreaks, affecting the level of service they can provide to us. Be assured that at Spunlite and Windsor Urban we have planned and have taken steps to try and reduce the risk of such an outbreak in our facilities. We have processes in place to manage whatever outbreaks we may face, but like all businesses we will be impacted at some point.

Due to the high demand on our services, we are doing everything we can to increase our capabilities. This includes expanding our manufacturing footprint, hiring new staff and working closely with our strategic suppliers to ensure that their capacities are enhanced. We expect these improvements will begin to make an impact on our offer in the very near future.

These are unprecedented times that are providing some incredible opportunities for our customers that has flowed through to us and we are grateful for your support and understanding whilst we work these challenges.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please feel free to contact your local Territory Manager.

Kind regards,

Jonathan White
