The Franklin District Council helped to put funding in place for the new lights and poles at Bayer Growers Stadium to make it a multi-use recreation hub which will cater for rugby, hockey, athletics and other sporting, community and cultural activities for the district.
4 x 37mtr climbable circular tapered poles were erected to mount 70 Thorn Champion fittings per pole. Each pole weighs 12 tonnes. As these poles were situated on an incline the foundations needed to be 11.5m deep and 2 metres wide at the top. Each foundation weighs over 55 tonnes.

Bayer Growers Stadium also won a Commendation for its new stadium floodlighting. The judges recognised the challenge of lighting a rugby stadium where the demand for excellent lighting for television needs to be balanced with cost constraints and light pollution restrictions.
